Water Striders

Today in fluid mechanics I learned about surface tension. Our professor explained why there is surface tension and the fluid mechanics behind it. He then showed us a picture of some water striders walking on top of the water, and explained that they are able to walk on top of the water because of surface tension. But that's not exactly what he said, no, he said "water striders couldn't do it without surface tension" and this was funny because this was the photo he showed us. Bow chica wow.

Northside Dr.

Today I learned from reviewing my construction materials notes that the rougher parts of Atlanta are not run-down sketchy areas, but rather neighborhoods-in-transition. This explains all the crime. (ghetto = pubescent males confused about life and turn to violence in a desperate attempt for attention)

Orinithopter

Today I learned the word for the aircraft that receives thurst and lift from flapping it's wings like a bird. I know black and white images from the late 1800s must fill your head, but I say no. People are keeping the hope alive to this day. Ornithopter in Flight Note: This is a celebrated flight.

Hole in the Ground

Today I learned that Ray Nagin doesn't care who hears him. In response to a comment from a news correspondant, about the fact that there are still flood damaged cars on the streets of New Oreleans, Mayor Ray Nagin said "You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed, and it's five years later. So let's be fair" Get 'em Ray.

MLT

Today in Fluid Mechanics I learned (well, relearned) the three primary dimensions. Those being Mass [M], Length [L], and Time [T]. So one can derive any other dimension from these. As an example, force, normally in newtons [N], but in primary dimensions and as written on the board as MLT^-1 (where that's actually in superscript and very small). The first thing that popped into my head, as should with you, was Miracle Max from The Princess Bride. And I quote, "True love is the greatest thing in the world. Except for a nice MLT... mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich where the mutton is nice and lean, and the tomato is ripe....they're so perky. I love that".

Honey

Today, in my MSE 2001 class, I learned that if you go camping/hiking, you should always take some honey with you. This is due to the antiseptic nature of honey. However, be careful, because, the professor failed to mention this, by pouring honey on your open wounds you have now become a rather tasty target for bears. That Pooh bear is a vicious bastard.
